Day 17 of 21 | Golf Follow Through, part 1

We've done a lot of work so far on the release of the club. Equally important is now the follow through, particularly how you move your right shoulder under, through and up.

I can usually tell when a golfer slices the ball by watching the follow-through. I don't even need to see the flight of the ball: if a golfer finishes with their right shoulder higher than their left then 9 times out of 10, he will slice the ball. Below are some pictures that show you what your right shoulder should ideally be doing in the follow-through:

Day 16 of 21 | Perfect Golf Swing Drills (Golf Swing Release, final part): Wrist Touching Drill

Today is the final day of working on the golf swing release. This drill will add the final piece to your release.

Day 16 Task

Use your 8-iron and tee up a ball as normal.

Now setup to this ball as if you're going to hit a straight shot. Don't exaggerate your setup for this drill.

From your setup position simply swing back so your club is close to parallel with the ground, as is shown in picture 1, and STOP.

Now, check that your club is in a similar position to mine (see picture 1), and most importantly check to see that the toe of your club is pointing straight up to the sky -- This Is Very Important! If your swing at this point is not the same or similar as to what I'm showing you in picture 1 then repeat your take-away until you get into or close to this position.

Day 13 of 21 | Golf Swing Drills (Golf Swing Release, part 3): baseball swing drill

Today’s drill is basically the same drill as on day 11, but this time you're standing up. You need to use your legs when you do your baseball/softball swings. And because you're doing this swing on such a flat swing plane, you need to do the upright backswing drill as well after completing this exercise.

Day 13 Task

Hold a club out in front of you and swing like a baseball/softball player back and forth, and this time use your legs as you are swinging. Here's some pictures to illustrate this drill in detail:

To finish the article, please visit my site www.best-golf-instruction.com.

Day 12 of 21 | Cure Slice (Golf Swing Release, part 2): Keep Your Legs Together

Like yesterday's drill, today's drill is really simple. All it involves is hitting balls or swinging if you can't hit any balls, with your feet together.

This drill will teach your hands to release through impact. With your feet together, your body is restricted in the swing so your hands have to take over. Another great benefit of doing this drill is that you will gain greater balance because you won't be able to swing too hard.

Day 12 Task

Grab an 8 or 9 iron and setup to a ball with your feet together. Tee up the ball quite high when doing this exercise because that will promote a flatter downswing. Once you’re setup to your teed-up ball, simply swing about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way back and then swing through with about the same length follow-through.

Day 10 of 21 | The Down Swing: Another Drill to Help You Improve Swing

Your backswing plane should be more upright than the down swing plane. Unfortunately a lot of golfers' swing plane is the exact opposite of this and it turns into swinging over the top.

Swinging over the top is one of the biggest causes of the ball starting to the left and turning into a slice or a pull.

Giving you the upright backswing drill has already started to cure the over-the-top problem. But now we need to work on flattening your downswing plane. But before I give you a drill that will help you to do that I have a word of warning.

The drill that I'm going to give you today is going to feel so strange that you may not want to do it. But please persevere: I'm asking you to do the total opposite of what you probably have been doing for your entire golf career so far, so no wonder it's feels odd!

Day 9 of 21 | Golf Back Swing: More Drills To Help You With Developing A More Upright Backswing

Today we're going to be working on the uprightness of your golf back swing. To really improve your swing, you need to have a more upright backswing and a flatter downswing. Don't worry about your downswing yet, because the flatness will come naturally as a result of the drills I'll give you.

  1. To do today's drill, grab a wedge and stand next to a wall so that your bottom just touches it.

Think about buying Bob Schaeffers Ultimate Power Golf Swing? Think again!

This is a personal review of the Bob Schaeffers Ultimate Power Golf Swing available at OHP Direct for $89.00 plus s/h (as of Feb 28th, 2011).

The marketing for this video is hyped up to the max. When you go on the website, you find one of those hugely long aggressive sales letters that I can't even read through fully. Generally, I really dislike OHP Golf products - they hardly ever seem to deliver what they promise. Hype takes over and the promises rarely live up to the facts.

So I wasn't really expecting much from this video after other bad experiences with OHP products. But you know what...with such low expectations this video actually over delivered. Don't get me wrong, this product will never live up to the hype of its marketing.

Day 8 of 21 | Golf Backswing: How To Turn Into Your Backswing

Yesterday I explained the need for a more upright backswing and a slightly flatter downswing. The reason for this is because most slicers tend to have a flat backswing and a steeper downswing.

To help to create a more upright backswing, you now need to focus on your shoulder turn because this largely governs the plane of your backswing. So today I'm going to give you an exercise that will get your shoulders turning on a more upright plane. The second drill will show you how to keep your right leg in the same position as at address.

Day 7 of 21 | Golf Slice Cure: the Importance of the Club Parallel Position

Moving on from yesterday’s takeaway position, we're now going to look at a very important position in the backswing. At about the mid-stage, your club is parallel with the ground as in the picture.

To get to this point in the swing, just keep moving the clubhead beyond the point you got to yesterday (hands over your right foot) until the club reaches horizontal. The most important aspect of this position is that the toe of the clubface needs to point directly up towards the sky. Today's drill will help you to get your club into the correct position.

Day 6 of 21 | Improve Golf Swing: Break It Down Into Its Individual Components

Today you will learn how to improve golf swing. I'm sure you've been waiting anxiously to get started with this after practising all the basic components like grip and setup.

As you know, the swing is a chain reaction, consisting of many different parts - I suggest that you practice them in isolation, starting with the take-away. Eventually you will put all the bits together and end up with a golf swing that will serve you well!

Many golfers do not realize the huge impact that the take-away has on the rest of the swing. Quite simply without a good, solid and consistent take-away you won't be able to improve golf swing.

  1. Most golfers that slice the ball do so because they take the club too far on the inside at the start of the backswing. This may be because they've heard that the golf ball must be struck from the inside to produce a draw. Although this is correct, it's also true that many golfers that take the club too much on the inside at the start of the backswing, tend to come over the top on the downswing which of course helps to produce a slice.

Day 5 of 21 | Curing a Slice: Put It All Together to Produce a Draw Consistently!

Today you're going to be putting all that you've learnt so far into a complete setup. Practice this complete setup everyday from now until Day 20.

If you're playing during the next 15 days, I suggest that you use this exaggerated setup for all long shots. Don't worry about your swing during this time - it will change naturally as a result of this new setup and the drills you're doing.

The following is a breakdown with pictures of what I want you to do exactly: position the ball no further forward than the middle of your stance. You should also turn your left foot in so it’s square, and remember to grip the club so you can see at least 3-4 knuckles on your left hand. Also make sure your grip has the elements outlined below.

Day 4 | Golf Alignment: Easy to Understand, Hard to Do

Golf alignment is perhaps the most important aspect of your setup that will largely determine whether you can consistently draw the ball or not. Although it is probably the easiest part of the setup to put into practice, it will most probably be the hardest thing for you to do consistently out on the course.
The reason for this is that most right handed golfers who slice the ball, tend to aim further to the left to compensate for their slice. This only makes it worse however.
If you're interested in curing a slice and developing your draw, read the rest of the article on my website Best-Golf-Instruction.com.

Best Golf Instruction First Competition: win this great book!

Looking for any funny, humourous or weird story that happened to you in your golfing career!

The winner will receive a hard copy of Charles Lindsay's "Lost Balls: Great Holes, Tough Shots, and Bad Lies".

Let me quote from Amazon's write-up: "Charles Lindsay's photographs offer a humorous and inquisitive foray into the hazards where golf balls are lost--rough, woods, bunkers, and wetlands--as well as unexpected encounters with wildlife on and off the green. An avid golfer with plenty of experience losing balls, Lindsay photographs his way to the heart of the game with a light touch and an eye for telling details. In the process, he discovers balls ravaged by golfers, gators, and foxes--and lost for over a century.

Lindsay even encounters what is believed to be the world's oldest golf ball--unearthed in a cellar in the Netherlands alongside a primitive club.

The photographs were taken at celebrated courses in North America, England, Scotland, and Ireland: Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Bethpage, Fossil Trace, Troon, St. Andrews, Royal St. Georges, Ballybunion, Old Head, and many others.

The foreword by John Updike is a celebration of golf and nature and where the two meet. A humorous story by golf giant Greg Norman rounds out the book."

Submit your entry by the 28th of February 2011, and be in with a chance to win this great book!

Day 2 of 21 | The Importance of Your Golf Ball Position and Foot Placement

Your golf ball position and how you place your feet at setup has a huge effect on the kind of shots you can hit. This page will show show you how you should setup to encourage a draw/hook. Remember that exaggeration is the quickest way to turn your slice into a draw.

Let’s cover your ball position first!

Golf Ball Position

For today's task I would like you to concentrate on on placing the ball no further forward than the middle of your stance. Also remember to implement what you learnt in Day 1. The following illustrations show you exactly what you should do ntoday as far as ball positioning and the grip are concerned. Notice how far back the ball is positioned and how strong the grip is. Copy this and remember, the more you exaggerate at this stage, the quicker your slice will turn into a draw/hook!

The further back you position the ball in your stance, the easier it is to hit a draw/hook.

Day 1 of 21 | How Changing Your Golf Grip Can Make All The Difference

How you swing your club and what shot you can hit consistently largely depends on how your grip. The grip I recommend to you, will encourage a right to left ball flight.

Move Your Left Hand Onto Your Grip

I would like you to EXAGGERATE the grip because exaggerating the motion will break the bad habit quicker. Practice the grip with your feet together, as shown below. That way you don't need to think about your stance and repeating the grip will become easier.
Read more about how to adjust your grip to develop a draw on my website www.best-golf-instruction.com.

Correct Golf Slice in 21 Days - What to Expect

First of all need to know why you slice in the first place. So let me talk a little bit about the general setup characteristics of a "slicer":

  • Your shoulders, hips, knees, feet and even clubface will be aimed left because you overcompensate. You know you're likely to hit right, so aim left!

  • Your spine is tilted towards the target, again to stop the ball from flying right.
  • Your ball is positioned too far to the left (forward in the stance).
  • Your grip might be too weak.
  • Read more about how to fix your slice and develop a draw on my website www.best-golf-instruction.com

Fix your golf slice and correct your swing in only 21 days

Hitting a golf slice is a horrible, demoralising problem. If you can't stop yourself hitting the ball to the right, you will never play to the best of your ability. Slicing your ball costs you a minimum of 17 yards per shot, and probably more if you slice badly.

Bob Manns Automatic Golf DVD Review

This is my review of the Bob Mann Automatic Golf Video's/DVD's available at www.golfbobmann.com.
I bought the DVDs so my review refers to them. To begin with, I bought the product because apparently the program has been sold over 3 million times. I have to assume that this therefore must be a great product, right?

    Wrong!
